Celebrating Georgetown’s Fishing Heritage & the Future of the Fisheries

Join us 6/15 for a special event devoted to exploring the development of aquaculture in Maine and how Georgetown’s aqua-farmers are rising to the opportunity and challenge.

Do you know there are seven oyster farmers in Robinhood Cove already selling oysters? Did you know your neighbors are hauling green crabs and planting quahogs? Around Maine other aqua-farmers are looking at seaweed, scallops crabs, and more.

Free panel discussion: Moderated by Josh Stoll, sustainable fishery expert at UMaine and a Georgetown oyster farmer himself, the panel will explore the development of aquaculture in Maine with a mix of aqua-farmers from Georgetown and across Maine. The panel convenes at 6 PM.

Dinner: Join us after the panel for a dinner of marine life raised, caught, or harvested in Georgetown – with a few sustainable options from farther afield thrown in! Oysters, clams, green crabs and whatever the sea produces that week will be on the menu. Reservations are required in advance.

Kayak the cove: For the more adventurous we are sponsoring a special guided kayak tour of Robinhood Cove prior to the evening panel and dinner. Spend the afternoon on the cove exploring the home to oyster farms and lobster pots. Space is limited to 16 kayakers, and boats are provided!

More information is available at www.seathefuturemaine.com. Dinner is $55 a person (tax and tip included) Reserve dinner and tour in advance.

Registration is not required for the panel!
